Why was my card transaction declined?

There are several reasons why a card might be declined:

  1. Insufficient Funds: The account does not  have enough available balance to make the purchase.
  2. Expired Card: The card has passed  its expiration date.
  3. Incorrect Card Details: Mistakes in entering the card number, CVC/CVV, or expiration date.
  4. Daily Spending Limit Exceeded: Some cards have daily spending limits that, if exceeded, can lead to declines. To view daily limits, please visit our Visa Debit Card limits webpage.
  5. International Transactions: Transactions made internationally may be flagged as suspicious and declined if you have not advised us of your travel plans.
  6. Card Not Activated: The card hasn't been activated yet.
  7. Technical Issues: Temporary system outages can affect transaction processing.
  8. Blocked Card: The card may be blocked due to reported theft or loss.
  9. Suspicious transactions: Your card may be restricted if there are suspicious transactions that are pending your confirmation.

Please note that if we notice a frequent pattern of customers disputing specific types of transactions, we classify those transactions as high risk and will automatically decline them. This measure helps us protect accounts and prevent financial losses for our members.

You can also access your Card Controls via Internet Banking or the Mobile App to see if any features have been disabled. See instructions  on our Managing Card Controls webpage.

Please contact us should you have any difficulties processing a card transaction.
