Step inside: Sustainable House Day 2026

Imagine spending a Sunday afternoon wandering through someone's home while they walk you through what they changed, what it cost, and what they'd do differently.

No sales pitch. No showroom gloss.

Just a real person and a real home, with all the practical detail you want.

That's Sustainable House Day.

"On Sustainable House Day, real people open real homes across Australia.

“Step inside architect-designed sustainable builds, clever retrofits, all-electric upgrades, efficient apartments and climate-resilient rebuilds." — Kate Walsh, Renew

According to Renew, 70% of past attendees report planning to make changes to their own home within six months of attending an open home.

About Sustainable House Day: Sunday 17 May

Sustainable House Day is on Sunday 17 May, and coordinated by Renew, a membership nonprofit that has been working to help Australians improve their homes for climate and energy resilience since 1980.

Renew also publishes Renew and Sanctuary magazines, two useful resources for anyone thinking about sustainable living or building.

This year, Bank Australia is principal partner of Sustainable House Day.

One ticket, two ways to learn

A ticket to Sustainable House Day costs $15 and gets you into as many open homes as you can fit into 17 May - plus access to Online Learning Month, with expert-led webinars and homeowner Q&As running from 18 May to 17 June.

Online Learning Month: webinars & homeowner Q&As

The open homes on Sunday 17 May are just the start.

You can keep exploring tips and guidance for your sustainable home journey for the month afterwards.

Online Learning Month runs from 18 May to 17 June, with expert-led sessions on electrification, passive design, retrofit pathways and energy efficiency.

Homeowner Q&As run alongside, so you can continue the conversation with the people whose homes you've visited, right through to implementation.

Get involved

Sustainable House Day open homes are happening in towns and cities across Australia on 17 May.

Head to sustainablehouseday.com to find an open home near you, buy your ticket and create your open home tour, or explore the full program through to 17 June.
